The current contemporary art scene in Tehran is relevant and compelling.
Despite negligible support and lack of exposure outside its borders, Iranian contemporary local art scene is more vibrant, confident and mature than ever before, reflecting the spirit of the generation it represents.
Its main players — artists and gallerists who were born at the cusp of, or after the 1979 revolution— are a community of ‘Cultural Patriots’ who find inspiration in Iran’s internal political and social climate, commincating in a unique language layered in native symbolism.
Nowhere is this more palpable than in the wave of privately funded developments in Central Tehran housing galleries , boutique hotels, coffee shops and book stores catering to its unique creative community.
